So the announcement that musicians have been waiting for since the whole lockdown thing started finally came this week: live music can resume in venues with strict social distancing measures. Booking gigs was a real challenge before this all started, I can imagine it will be an even greater pain with only a few venues and loads of bands trying to get gigs. I will start making the usual approaches to venues but I am not expecting much and will be lucky to get a couple of gigs for the remainder of the year.
I managed to write a new ‘Volca’ album this month and am just putting the final touches to the mixes before uploading to all the usual digital channels, so it will have a September release.
The Sacred Woods have been adding quite a few new covers to our setlist and a new original that I wrote during lockdown (not lockdown related though). I need to get the website updated with the new tracks and get it publicised so that the venues know that we are still about and available.
On the experimental music front, there is a call out again for Radiophrenia which is an online radio channel in Glasgow that puts on a 2 week event in November. “Radiophrenia aims to promote the medium of radio as an art form and encourage experimental approaches to making radio that are not catered for by mainstream stations.” I have been successful a few times in recent years in getting my music on the radio station so I might try to write something specifically for the programme this time round. Lets see what happens.
Well, still strange times and things are changing constantly, both the rules and local restrictions, so it is hard to see much into the future. I need to get some focus on some creative projects and keep working so we shall see what transpires over the next few weeks.
