Well I thought this months blog should review what I achieved during FAWM and a little about where all my projects are at right now.
FAWM (February Album Writing Month – see last months blog) went really well and I achieved the 14 songs in about 15 days. As I mentioned last month, the positive, major key songs were tricky to write initially but as the month progressed they got easier. By the time I wrote number 10 they were flowing so fast I rattled the rest off in 1 session. I was able to come up with some new guitar approaches that seem to suit my vocal much better and have been really pleased with the effect the song-writing had on my guitar playing.
I am really excited abouta few of the songs and we have started practicing them with The Sacred Woods with a view to performing them live real soon. I have also now got enough material that I think I should try to perform some songs solo. I am rather nervous about this as my guitar playing can be a little sketchy, I feel that I need more practice. My experience in the past has been that I always feel that I am not ready and more practice is needed, in the end you just need to find a way to get over that and do it anyway and see what happens.
Hopefully in the very near future I will find the courage to attend an open mic on my own and perform some songs. We have started attending some open mics as a band so I am hoping this will give me the impetuous to do it solo.
99% of my focus is still on The Sacred Woods and the other stuff is taking a back seat. I have been tinkering with a few things using a Shruti box that I got at Christmas and doing some drones but I just cant seem to organise myself properly to get time to do everything that I want to do (loads of blog posts already about this, I know!).
Anyway, if you want to hear some really rough demos of my FAWM tracks they are all on Bandcamp http://julesroberts.bandcamp.com/album/fawm-2019
